I think a lot of people look over keyywords. I know picking a set of keywords can be the hardest part of what niche you go into. I’ve seen some articles have like 10-15% keyword density and some no more than 2%.
I think by using not so popular keywords with less searches you wil have a more targeted audience and have an easier time ranking for that keyword or word.
